Five For Free #133

Big Wave - Dying On The Vine

It seems fitting that a band called Big Wave are from Torquay, our very own "English riviera", although judging by the summery, slightly surfy jangle-pop of recent freebie 'Dying On The Vine' they sound more like part of California's sunshine-indie scene. This track was released as part of the second birthday celebration for Art Is Hard Records, and a fitting gift it is.

Mining Boom - Telecom

Australian quartet Mining Boom are back with a new single too, titled 'Telecom' it follows on from their recent garagey number 'PDA', this track treads a similar lo-fi DIY rock path with similarly good results. Their continuing fascination with dining rooms remains. Following previous EP 'Dining Room', 'Telecom' can be found on the follow-up 'Dining Room II'.

Last Lynx - Killing Switch

A little change in style and tempo here as we investigate this new track from Swedish popsters Last Lynx who give us this slick, funky and poppy track called 'Killing Switch', but don't worry, they're not mining the depths of 80s pop to bring us some dross. This is classy, cool and catchy and shows a band gradually broadening their horizons a little further afield.

Joys Of Madness - Fractures In Light

Joys Of Madness' are a indie/garage trio from Burton-On-Trent (and that's possibly a Sound Of Confusion first!) who've just released a new free single called 'Detachment' via Bandcamp. Being the awkward sods that we are, we actually prefer the B-side 'Fractures In Light', but it matters little. Just check the link below and you've got a pair of decent noisy guitar tunes for nothing, and you can't argue with that.

Loraine - Heaven

This incredibly lovely piece of post-rock is from Atlanta band Loraine who have just released a new EP called 'An Autumn Evening'. They wanted us to push the track 'Hello, Morning', but being awkward sods...etc... here's our favourite, 'Heaven' which just seems to have that little bit more magic. All the tracks are available free from SoundCloud though so check them all and see what your favourite is.
