J.P. Rose - Back To Me

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

"One LA artist to look out for in the coming months" is how our Artist To Check Out piece on J.P. Rose in December ran. It is now "the coming months" and Mr. Rose has just released his 'Seascape' EP, with the song 'Back To me' being the lead track. And no, that's not an audition to be the new face of Debenhams, that's the artwork for the EP and it does suggest that some people may have found their new indie/pop heartthrob right here. Oh and the music's not bad either. As we learnt last month, J.P. is a man with very good songs that blurr the boundaries of mainstream and alternative.

'Back To Me' is a perfect example of this; the chorus is memorable the soft electro-pop production is just right and the lyrics which plead "won't you come back to me, I've paid for my mistakes" are almost certain to get the results he's after. Who could turn down such heartfelt words sung as though he means it from the bottom of his heart? We know he's got more songs than this in his arsenal, now it's just time to hand him, his photogenic looks and his perfectly made alt-pop over to the public who will, with any luck, embrace him as a credible and talented alternative to most current chart pop. This is probably the sound The Big Pink were aiming for on their second album.
