Wolf Alice - Fluffy

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

OK, so you've all already got Wolf Alice's free download track 'Leaving You', yeah? Pretty good wasn't it. In the few months since then more wheels have been put into motion and more plans are afoot. It's been announced that the London group will be releasing their debut single 'Fluffy' on February 11th. It's a month known for snowfall so maybe the ever so cute and loving image on the cover will be recreated by dogs throughout the country. We mentioned before that they were a trio, but they're now a quartet apparently, so either we messed up first time around or they've added a member, whichever, their sound is just a awesome.

To coincide with the single's release they've announced a UK tour so you'll be able to size them up in person. 'Fluffy' is a tad rockier than the freebie with some gutsy and sharp riffs augmenting those dominant vocals. We're not far of The Duke Spirit with this one, and that is a very high compliment. Wolf Alice still have the merest hint of a lo-fi edge to their sound, they're not aiming for daytime radio ubiquity. Another group treading a similar path are The Joy Formidable, a band whose new stuff is sounding equally impressive. It's no wonder these lot have been popping up in a few of this month's tips lists.
