Band To Check Out: Pointless 80

Article by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

As Sound Of Confusion regulars will be aware, we've featured an awful lot of decent bands from Finland of late. Whether this means we've been missing out in the past or that there is currently an impressive creative streak around Helsinki and Turku we don't know. But what of the next generation? Whether there is another wave of talent ready to emerge hot on the heals of our current faves we don't know, but there is definitely some hope. From a similar area in the south of the country are Pointless 80, a quartet of frighteningly young (aged 16-17) guys with guitars in their hands and a fire in their belly.

The music Pointless 80 make is punkier than many of the indie and dreampop bands we've featured from the region, but they play these songs with gusto and at such a young age are likely to only get better. There are a handful of singles and an EP already available as free downloads from their SoundCloud page. Theirs is an energetic sound, they don't do many ballads. It's pedal to the metal most of the way. At times this verges on metal, at other times things take a turn for the anthemic. The next couple of years will be interesting to see how they develop as they hone their sound and improve as a group. It looks like Finland might just have another wave of bands in store for us after all.
