Five For Free #147

Gallery Circus - In 10

By the sounds of things it's been an exciting year for Newcastle duo Gallery Circus, with much of it spent touring and recording in the US. They're celebrating their return with a homecoming show at the Think Tank in Newcastle on February 22nd, and giving away this great piece of harmonious, slightly sun-tanned indie-rock called 'In 10' as a free download.

xSDTRK - sVcrethe

Right, well the band name is pronounced "soundtrack", so that's easy enough, but we're buggered if we know how to say 'sVcrethe'. xSDTRK has the real name Yonatan Ayal and began playing piano aged just three. Twenty years later and he's made quite a name for himself in his native Canada as a producer and collaborator, but this twisted hunk of contorted electro-pop is perhaps what sums him up best.

The Sweet Deals - Troll 2

The Sweet Deals are also based in Canada, specifically Halifax, and their current album 'Dancing With The Stars' is full of the kind of quality guitar-pop that shares attributes with Welsh bands such as Super Furry Animals, Topper and Race Horses (RIP). The LP is a name-your-price download or you can get 'Troll 2' (about one of the worst movies ever made apparently) for free right here.

Apparat - A Violent Sky

Berlin-based Sascha Ring has been making music with various acquaintances as Apparat for many years now and is set to release new album 'Krieg und Frieden' (Music For Theatre) on February 18th. The first track to be taken from the record is 'A Violent Sky', a song that creates many moods as it grows from a subtle intro right through to the stirring and dramatic mid-section.

The Dirty Nil - Zombie Eyed

A bit of a double header to finish on. The Sound Of Confusion favourites The Dirty Nil have a new 7" single out that's split with fellow Ontario band Northern Primitive. So you can buy the vinyl if you like, or for a limited time download the tracks for free. 'Zombie-Eyed' is just the kind of messy and raw garage-punk we've come to expect from these guys.
