Rosco - Give Peace Another Chance

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Sterling Roswell, or Rosco for short, will be well known to many, especially around these parts, as a member of the legendary Spacemen 3 and later on joining other former members for the underrated space-rock group The Darkside. Since then his time has been split between music, film and production work, as well as guest spots including with The Seeds man Sky Saxon (RIP) on his 'Transparency' album. There have been solo releases too, and another solo album is in the pipeline and looks set to include current single 'Give Peace Another Chance'.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Rosco swaps his trademark percussion for guitar in the psychedelic video that accompanies the song. The roots of the track can be traced back to his former bands but the sound here is lighter, almost poppy even, something which suits his soft voice. The song echos John Lennon's 40-odd year-old sentiment and does so with a classy piece of what's not far away from being described as indiepop, just keeping that psych edge to the song and preventing any soppiness creeping in. It's not the only sterling single (pun intended) that Rosco has released of late, you can also check the link below for the more trippy and exploratory 'Interplanetary Spaceliner'.
