Keaton Henson - Lying To You

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

I'll be honest, we've been getting a bit fed up with singer-songwriters. Thanks to the kind of recording technology that the average toddler can master whilst simultaneously watching an episode of Balamory, the world is crawling with them. The internet is seeing a plague of Biblical proportions of blokes pouring their heart out over an acoustic guitar. But Nick Drake did that and he was great. Neil Young did that and he was great. You could list dozens more. There's always an appeal to music stripped down to its essentials that will never go away. Keaton Henson has made a career out of it, and the tour in support of his second album is already sold out.

Is he much kop? Well you can't deny he can sing and play guitar and is far far better than some of the idiots clogging up the gaps between the auto-tuned bits of the top 40. New single 'Lying To You' is nicely sung, nicely produced and nicely written. If you like your music nice then you can't fail here. Of course this is how it's supposed to be and therefore it's difficult to knock someone successfully achieving their goal. There is far worse music around for certain and if this is your bag you'll find every box ticked. Your Mum will probably like it, your Gran will probably like it, but you'll find more edge on an overfed Teletubby.
