Bleached - Next Stop

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Formed from the remains of LA punk group Mika Miko, Bleached came to our attention at the end of 2011. During the period since then they've spent their time gradually getting better and better, surely no bad thing in anyone's books. With the announcement that debut album 'Ride Your Heart' will be with us on April 2nd we thought it was about time to crack open the Champagne. Then we noticed it was only 10am and being a bit passed it thought it wise not to go getting wasted quite this early, as we'd most likely be asleep in a pool of our own vomit by half eleven. So instead we stuck their new single on.

'Next Stop' is pure melodic punk excellence. Guitars buzz from start to finish, the drums/percussion have the sparkle of early Blondie, the vocals are delectable and to top it all off the song it a belter. At some point the world will get sick of girl-fronted bands mixing the sounds of 60s girl-groups, the attitude of high end punk and the fuzz of the Jesus & Mary Chain, but while there are groups like Bleached coming out with such perfect, blissfully buzzing and energetic pop records like this, that point remains quite far off in the distance. A great piece of reverb-heavy powerpop.
