The sixth track of our bumper Christmas downloads giveaway comes from somewhere a little closer to The Sound Of Confusion HQ. Falmouth's music scene is unrecognisable from what it was at the turn of the century, and you'd have to think the expansion of the college has a lot to do with it, meaning that more young people move to the area and less local talent leaves. We've seen a wave of great bands come out of the Cornish town in the last few years, and TinnedFruit are up there with the best of them (yes, they do spell it without a space, it's not a typo).
Their latest track is called 'Oh, Jonesy' and is a lovely piece of fuzz-pop from the trio. Taking a driving beat and some serrated guitar, they add melodic touches before we even hit the vocals. The awareness is there to scale this back and allow the voice space when it does arrive, and the intonation isn't a million miles away from forgotten Britpoppers Big White Stairs (that reference will be lost on just about everybody...) but TinnedFruit have a more propulsive sound with a grunge influence peeping though at times. Very nicely done.
