Autist - You Know

Article by KevW

The Berlin scene of the late '60s and early '70s was, of course, fundamental to developing electronic music as we know it, with many major artists of the time (Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, David Bowie...) heading to the city to record some of their greatest work. Today, musicians still flock to the German capital and this year, perhaps more than any, we've covered many bands who've taken up residence there. As far as we can tell, Autist are Berlin natives, and the music they make is experimental, electronic, and could be seen as a continuation of some of the most revered bands of Germany's past.

'EP#1' was released this summer and has already seen tracks remixed by other artists, and there are also alternate versions and even a brand new free download to be found on their Sound Cloud page. Taken from the EP is 'You Know' which has recently been given the video treatment. It's a fine choice for a focus track, as it's both abrasive and melodic in equal measure. You could perhaps compare it to early Crystal Castles in the way that it makes your ears burn with messed-up screeches and squalls, but is underpinned by a tunefulness that's fighting to escape the barbed wire sounds. If you're suffering from a Saturday morning hangover, this will be kill or cure stuff.
