Dave Hughes And The Renegade Folk Punk Band - As You Are

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Alright, can someone call the anti-crusty patrol as fast as possible please? We have a band here called Dave Hughes And The Renegade Folk Punk Band, tell them to bring extra supplies of tranquilizers, we don't want this lot escaping any time soon. Yeah, this may have "Levellers tribute act" written all over it but in all honesty, this track (featuring Chris T-T) is pretty decent. This is mainly by virtue of not being renegade in any way or trying to mix folk and punk together. Maybe they should be prosecuted under the trades descrptions act instead. 'As You Are' was originally released in the summer but it's getting a little extra push now in preparation for a UK tour.

The song is actually an optimistic piece of guitar-pop that aiming to be anthemic and just about manages it. It's certain to evoke some great singalong moments at gigs though, and sounds like it should be a firm fan favourite, especially considering it's been knocking around for a few months. You can detect a little of The Waterboys in there but mainly it's reasonably straightforward British guitar music at its core. We should apologise if we're making this sound a bit on the mundane side of things. It's a very good tune really. Have a listen and check out a gig, you won't need a dog on a piece of string to get in.
