Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
Unusually for a single, neither of the tracks here are called 'Coda'. Electronic Green, from what we can gather, is the guise of a Japanese musician called Kotaro Saito who is apparently the only cellist in Japan who plays 5 and 6 string cello along with the conventional 4. We can't back this claim up but we're willing to take the record label's word for it. And weirdly, that record label is Soun Records who are based in Slovakia, so we're covering a fair bit of the globe with this one. Kotaro Saito has a lot of film and TV work on his CV, including the award-winning movie 'Departures'. Here though, he's concentrating on this new musical project.
Both of these songs are entirely instrumental and very subtly arranged. They'd loosely fall into the dreampop category although you could happily just call them ambient pieces. Cello takes the lead but there's nothing in the way of showing off, it's all very gentle and backed by dubby electronic beats, especially the track 'Warm'; its title is a fitting one, this is a soft sound that builds to become a touch more vibrant towards the end. The second song is simply titled 'Re' and doesn't stray far from the sound of 'warm', only this time those chilled beats are there from the start, again with a very basic cello backing. It's not exactly party time, but these lovely sounds are superb for drifting away to.
