Broken Hands - Curves

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

When it comes to this mysterious thing called life, there are some opportunities you just have to take. In June, Kent quartet Broken Hands will be releasing a new EP called 'Down By The Current'. 'Curves' is the first we get to hear from it, and apparently the song was inspired by last year's festival season. This year's festival season may inspire some different memories. Let's face it, The Rolling Stones are one of the most important acts in the history of music; any music. Broken Hands have been lucky enough to bag themselves a support slot at Hyde Park. Like we said, some opportunities you don't turn down. Those guys won't be around forever, there may not be many future bands who can claim this most impressive of warm-up spots.

Also, you probably don't get given chances such as this if there's the possibility of letting the side down and detracting from what will be one of the UK's biggest summer events (in the music world at least). Broken Hand don't make songs that hark back to the '60s, they're not The Strypes. They make current indie-rock with plenty of clout; and clout is something they'll need to satisfy a big space such as this. It wouldn't really work with Belle & Sebastian, would it? 'Curves' packs a punch, and even if they're playing while most are queuing up for beers, we reckon a few heads will be turned.
