Duologue - Cut & Run

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Even a couple of months after the event, the bands (which is just about every band currently in existence) are intent on making those of us who were unable to go to this year's SXSW feel like we missed out. Personally I'll take solace in the fact that I'm vegetarian and the event seems to be as much about cooking animal carcasses in the open air as about music. It's been nearly six months since we last featured Londoners Duologue on the site when we covered their single 'Push It', and on May 20th the master remixers will be releasing their first album 'Song & Dance' physically (digital copies are available already).

The video to current single 'Cut & Run' is kind of a road trip film, documenting their experiences of travelling over to Texas and performing to the smell of burning flesh (look, I'm just trying to make myself feel less jealous, alright?). Naturally it looks like a good time was had by all, but we'll skip to the song which is one of the best electro-rock tracks we've heard this year, and they're hardly in short supply. What Duologue do is avoid sounding too much like the others, which isn't an easy task, yet it's one they manage well. The other noteworthy thing about them is that they know a good tune when they write one, so any fear of style of content in totally diminished. With a few more festival appearances this summer we could see them getting decent levels of deserved hype.
