Swords - All The Boys

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

From browsing internet dating websites at work, to mass murder and butchery. So goes the video for this new single by Irish trio Swords. It's a sinister one, that's for sure, and we can't work out if it's just a fantasy or an actual plan for the future. I guess only the girl in the film knows for sure. 'All The Boys' is the latest single for this group who are centred around the Dublin area and, from what we gather, will be releasing a debut album sometime later this year. We're already thinking it could be something impressive, despite only having heard this one song.

Why? Because there are many signs here that this is no fluke, no one-off good song amongst a set of filler. You can tell from the way the song is written, the way it's produced and the way the band have a defined sound. The reasons that 'All The Boys' is a great single are far from it purely being a nice tune. This is confident, it shows attention to detail and a combination of indie-rock and electro-pop that you can't just stumble upon by accident. If it turns out to be rubbish you can laugh at us, but we have a good feeling about this one...
