Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
This is the second single from Du Tonc, the collaborative effort featuring Matt Van Schie (of Van She) and Mighty Mouse and follows debut offering 'Darkness' earlier this year. Given the previous form of both men we were within our rights to expect something decent from them joining forces and we duly got it. With a world tour planned for the summer the time seemed about right for a new single, and what they've given us here is a step up from 'Darkness'; it's one of those songs that can be appreciated by people with varying musical tastes and could be the song that opens the door a little bit wider for them.
At the beginning the repetitive thuds of a bass drum could be about to lead us anywhere, but then the vocals and a relentless bassline kick in and the song heads skyward. Some spangly guitar adds to the variety, making sure it's not just one for the dance floor. This is a song you can listen to anywhere and it works just the same. The timely release date is spot on too, as this is summer nights converted into musical form. Surely anticipation for an album must be fairly high now, and we're becoming more sure that when it arrives it will deliver the goods.
