Charlie Straight - I Slept Alone

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Charlie Straight are another one of those bands who've managed to pass us by somehow. They formed in 2006 and released their debut album in 2009, so we're way behind on this one. So thanks very much to The Playground PR for winging us an email about them. In our defense, they're not overly well known in the UK just yet, and don't appear to have physical releases available here other than on import, but you'll find plenty on the usual download sites (Amazon, iTunes). That could all be about to change though, as it seems the band, now that they're firmly established back home in the Czech Republic, are heading for the UK, having set up a base in London.

Recent single 'I Sleep Alone' is easily accessible guitar-pop that lends itself well to heavy rotation on the alternative music radio stations and isn't unlike many British indie bands of the past. The only stumbling block is the current disinterest the British public at large seem to have with sounds of this kind, but surely this won't go on forever. It could be that Charlie Straight have picked an opportune moment to try and establish themselves here. They have the experience, they have plenty of tunes and they must know the business well. All this could potentially add up to a breakthrough. Here's hoping.
