Crybaby Special - One Winged Bird

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

If just listening to their debut album 'No Excuses' wasn't proof enough that Crybaby Special were a few sandwiches short of a picnic, then the new video to single 'One Winged Bird' might give you a little extra persuasion. The Medway collective proved to be a disturbed bunch with their debut full length, and it doesn't seem like they've stopped taking the medicine just yet (or should that be started taking the medicine?). Before they get whisked away by the men in white coats they've put together this barking mad film.

With its deceivingly jaunty intro, you've be forgiven for thinking they were inspired by sounds from the end of the pier rather than the depths of the paranormal. But then figures in animal heads flash by on the screen the psychotic vocals begin to shriek as though the point of mental breakdown was passed many moons ago. If Mummy Short Arms and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci had a child, gave it a lobotomy and fed it on nothing but absinthe then the results might be like this. As the shrieking intensifies you're just left thinking that the fine line between genius and madness might not exist at all and they are in fact both the same thing.
