Washington Irving - Wandering Wits

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Washington Irving have done a grand job in ensuring that not every one of our Scottish correspondent's "Founds" either called it quits or amounted to nothing. The quintet from Aberdeenshire have been going from strength to strength, having recently completed a tour in support of Frightened Rabbit, and now announce their own headline tour. The first of their two-part album will be released on April 22nd, and will be called 'Palomides Volume 1.' Part two is expected later this year, and the lead single from the first volume is 'Wandering Wits'.

This seems like a fitting name for a band on tour, and a fitting track to introduce them to a few new fans, being an uptempo number that shows off their best aspects. Those heavily accented vocals, the soaring backing vocals and the Frightened Rabbit meets Arcade Fire arrangements and production. It's full of energy and sure to be a live favourite, with plenty of crowd singalong opportunity. Who knows, maybe come festival season, each one of their anthemic indie-type songs will be bellowed back to them at full volume.
