Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
Finland's All Will Be Quiet took post-rock into more interesting places on last summer's album 'On The First Day', but since then, true to their name, it has been a bit quiet on the news front. Until now that is, it sounds as though they've actually barely paused for breath and are back with a brand new single, 'What I'm Meant To Be', and it could be their most accessible so far, almost avoiding post-rock and atmospheric textures altogether in favour of something that would more commonly be categorised as indie or even pop.
It's three-and-a-half minutes long, it has a grand chorus and a memorable tune. Basically this is more the kind of material we'd expect from fellow Swedes Shout Out Louds or The Mary Onettes, and we're saying this as a compliment. It's not that they were short of a tune or two before, not in the slightest, but this sparkly and optimistic track just sounds a bit more swoonsome and life-affirming. If it's an indication of a potential change in direction then we definitely approve.
