Five For Free #170

Peppercorn - The World Keeps Spinning

Australian trio Peppercorn may have grown up on a diet of Nirvana and Oasis, but their music is more diverse than that may suggest and they don't really sound like either band. Surely a good thing when so many others do. New single 'World Keeps Spinning' is the first to be taken from their forthcoming debut album and has echoes of baggy and psychedelia to its sound.

Á La Punk - Dead Sun

The Sound Of Confusion favourite Á La Punk isn't wasting any time. We only reviewed his latest EP a couple of weeks ago and now he brings us another new track, free download single 'Dead Sun'. Once again this is DIY music-making of a very high standard. It's also a slight departure, this time looking more towards indie/guitar-pop but laying some lush orchestration over the top.

Aesthetic Invention - Code Song

Aesthetic Invention sounds like it could be the name of some art-pop project, but it is in fact a New York based musician called Glen Liberman and this represents his first musical venture. As we know, that part of the world is known for mixing the worlds of electro and indie at the moment, and that's what we find here, but in 'Code Song', Aesthetic Convention does it in a more pensive way.

ArtClassSink - Time To Go (before the rivalry)

These guys have recently supported up and coming psych heroes Temples, which should tell you a little bit about their sound. ArtClassSink hail from Oxford and are very much part of the scene there, with this track being recorded at studios previously used by Trophy Wife and Foals. 'Time To Go (before the rivalry)' does contain elements of psychedelia, but is equal parts shoegaze and guitar-pop too.

Peace Arrow - Broken Bridge

Peace Arrow - Broken Bridge from Akashic Channel on Vimeo.

We have no idea how to pronounce it, but since 2011, Peace Arrow have been working on their debut album '↑↓↑↓'. Full marks for innovation there. The project was started by former Hear Hums member Mitch Myres, and they've just released this video and free download for the psychedelic dreampop track 'Broken Bridge'. We think this is probably what Animal Collective's dreams sound like.
