Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
It seems like an absolute age since we first heard about London band Treetop Flyers, so long ago that they featured on one of our radio shows. So it's with great joy that we hear they're very much still active, and more than that, have got everything together for a debut album, 'The Mountain Moves', set for release at the end of this month. From what we'd heard from them in the past we'd be inclined to expect folky, well-written tunes and the odd harmony or two. But that was them a few years ago. This is the Treetop Flyers of today.
The essential ingredients haven't changed on single 'Things Will Change', they've just all been given a boost to make their sound that little bit better. Semi-acoustic rock doesn't sound the least bit exciting, until you factor in that some of the best albums of recent years (Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, The Dreaming Spires) have all been variations on this. Treetop Flyers have upped the songwriting level, they've perfected the lush harmonies, the sound of driving down Sunset Strip in 1972, and squeezed them all into this song. It makes their name seem incredibly apt, these guys are certainly flying on this one.
