Bleached - Dead In Your Head

We've had our eye on LA's Bleached since the first rumblings appeared online in 2011, and it's always exciting seeing a band develop. These girls (who were former members of Mika Miko) impressed earlier in the year with single 'Never Stop'. Now their album 'Ride Your Heart' is here and is classy garage-punk that lives up to expectations, particularly new single 'Dead In Your Head'.

Merchandise - Anxiety's Door

This new EP from Florida's Merchandise has already come in for some high praise and we can get our hands on it from today. Their psychedelic guitar-pop sounds do show some invention, and this is no doubt helped by having Sonic Boom on mastering duties. This is maybe most evident on the upbeat, seven-minute voyage that is 'Anxiety's Door'.

Russel Swallow and the Wolf - Every Time She Comes

Russell Swallow and the Wolf released their first EP 'Sunrise Mountain' last summer and are currently working on new material. In the meantime they're putting three unreleased songs up as a free EP download via their Bandcamp page. 'Every Time She Comes' is the opener and is short but very sweet, comprising of piano and lovelorn lyrics that might be best avoided if you're feeling a bit weepy.

Matt Mays - Take It On Faith

Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Matt Mays creates the kind of anthemic alt-rock that seems to pour from that particular coast of the Atlantic, as his touring partners from a bit further south, The Gaslight Anthem, know all too well. His new album 'Coyote' is released to coincide with the tour and you can pick up the first single 'Take It On The Faith' for free.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

Splashh - Sun Kissed Bliss

It's easy to forget that this very week last year, yours truly went swimming, in the actual sea, in England. A country which is now half-covered in snow and pretty bloody Baltic. Good old Splashh are doing a neat job of ignoring the massive annual climate difference by releasing this free track, inappropriately-titled 'Sun Kissed Bliss'. It's about as warm and summery as guitar-pop can get and we're using it to try and at least give the illusion that we don't need to put an extra pair of socks on. Just to make this wonderful song even less fitting to the current circumstances, it was a find from our Scottish correspondent who's probably out fighting polar bears in his back garden as we speak. Put this tune on though, and summer will be with you.
