Yes, the new album from Icelandic one-man psych-fuzz band Singapore Sling is, rather bluntly, titled 'Psych Fuck'. As explained by Henrik Björnsson himself: ‘I decided to call the album 'Psych Fuck' because it’s much more ferocious and a lot more fucked up and experimental in the way I mixed it”. Fair enough then. You'll be able to get your hands on the record in its entirety on the suitably nice date date of Friday 13th November, although it's unlikely to bring you bad luck if you do, and free taster 'ÆJL' goes some way to telling you why.
This particular project (Henrik is also a member of Dead Skeletons and was previously in Bang Gang) was started back in 2000, and while 'ÆJL' may not be overly experimental, it does have the aforementioned ferocity and comes across a little bit like A Place To Bury Strangers on a real downer. But, for all its inherent gloom, this does shine in its own way, especially with the percussion and keys which could be lifted from a Raveonettes track. So, all in all, crude names, superstitious release dates and added darkness, 'ÆJL' is really quite lovable in the end.
