The video for this latest single by New York-based band HAERTS (they have members from the US, UK and Germany) is almost as interesting and impressive as the song itself. Beginning with shots of life in a rundown part of small town America, there are shots of birds, kites, aeroplanes and even a magic carpet. Flying is very much on the agenda from the start. After taking us on a trip through the lives of some of the residents, the camera suddenly takes off, soaring high above the houses and trees. It does this on more than one occasion, just how we don't know, but we'll guess at maybe a balloon. However they did it, it's surprising and (no pun intended) incredibly uplifting.
That word could be used for 'Wings' in general: uplifting. This is a complex and positively stunning dreamy alt-pop song that should probably be awarded a medal of some kind. It's brilliantly made, until you get to the halfway point, and then it goes a step further, itself soaring off into the clouds, carried on beautiful guitar and vocals. It's experimental pop at its very best and if it passes under the radar it would be criminal. Thankfully the track has also appeared on a Kitsune compilation album, so hopefully that will increase its range a bit. Have a listen, and if you like then please spread the word far, wide and high.
