I don't have a hangover, I don't have the flu or anything similar, yet watching the video for this new single by twin hidden made me feel slightly nauseous, a bit like the feeling of seasickness (perhaps the line "I'm out on a sea" subconsciously added to this effect). If just watching three people perform a kind of dance routine on a huge turntable/roundabout from above can have that effect on the viewer, I wonder how the three performers felt afterwards? I'm sure many of you less wimpy folk than me will be able to watch it right to the end without your eyes going funny, but I had to stop halfway through. 'Unconditionally' is from the London-based Mancunians and follows on from their very good free track 'A Berry Burts' which we covered recently.
You don't need visuals to enjoy this song though, it's another well-written indie/pop song with a slightly quirky side to it. It's unusual how twin hidden manage to incorporate folk, balladry and even music hall sounds into a track like this. Admittedly that description may put a few people off, but those are merely certain aspects of what would be described as an alt-pop/indie song that is probably far closer to the music you know and love than you might think. Having recently spoken about how groups with the traditional set-up and the traditional rock and pop instruments can create something new, I suggested that what we're currently seeing is bands pinching ideas from other areas in the world of music and seeing if they can fit them to their own style. On 'Unconditionally', that's exactly what twin hidden have done.
