Five For Free #119

Satellite Stories - Sirens

Getting things off to a lively start are Finnish indie/dance stars Satellite Stories whose sound could be described as a mash up of Friendly Fires, Delphic and lots of Two Door Cinema Club. They have a couple of gigs in London lined up for the end of the month and to get you in the mood they're offering sprightly single 'Sirens' as a free download, their album 'Phrases To Break The Ice' is out now.

Kitten Berry Crunch - Black & Blue

We can of course rely on Brooklyn to throw up some lively experimental treats to brighten up the dark days, not least the new EP from synth-pop collective Kitten Berry Crunch (the name? No idea, maybe it's a delicacy in some parts of the world). Taken from their new EP is the giddy bounce of 'Black & Blue', a trans-genre musical feast for the ears.

Allo Darlin' - Northern Lights

It's always summer when Allo Darlin' are on the stereo and the latest single from their exceptionally good 'Europe' album is pure indiepop heaven. With jangly guitars in abundance and overflowing with melody, 'Northern Lights' is one of the highlights of one of the records of the year. The great news? It's free to download from the link below. Grab it, and then (if you haven't already) buy the album, pronto.

City Brat - Savage Friends

More indie/electro-pop experimenting from Brooklyn comes to us with this brand new video from one-man band City Brat. Spilling with ideas, new EP 'Strange Summer' (these muso types just won't let go of the sunshine) is free to download and 'Savage Friends' is a heady mix of genres that's best described as Vampire Weekend getting high with The Postal Service at a kids' birthday party.

Chris Helme - Blindeye

Former Seahorses and The Yard frontman Chris Helme has just released his new solo album 'The Rookery' to widespread acclaim from the music press. You can get your hands on free track 'Blindeye' which shows his nifty way with a tune and a quietly brooding arrangement, and then you can catch the man on tour across the UK throughout the rest of the year.
