Five For Free #121

Sad Robot - Hold On

This storming new single is the first new material from Los Angeles band Sad Robot since their debut album 'The Beginning Of The End' back in 2010. 'Hold On' is pretty colossal and should give your speakers a good work out, as it switches between thunderous, earth shattering drums and vocals that have a similar effect to Alex Ferguson's infamous hair-dryer treatment.

Letting Up Despite Great Faults - Bulletproof Girl

Another LA group making similarly impressive sounds (in a different style) to Sad Robot are electro/dreampop group Letting Up Despite Great Faults. Their new album 'Untogether' has just been released they're offering up a free download of the track 'Bulletproof Girl' which is sparkly and soft and a bit like getting an Indian head massage.

Deaf Club - Break It Slow

Londoners Deaf Club have had a pretty good year and are rounding it off with a UK tour and the release of free track 'Break It Slow'. It's a quietly brooding track that suggests the quintet are capable of producing some truly tremendous sounds. It'll be well worth watching how these guys develop, and the news is that they're working on an EP for release in the new year.

The Get Alongs - I'd Rather Listen To The Smiths

When describing the music made by this up and coming Stoke-on-Trent group you'll find a clue in the song title. Yes The Get Alongs deal in fairly traditional British guitar music and new track 'I'd Rather Listen To The Smiths' not only tells of a love for the Manchester group, listening to the clattering indie sound it's clear that The Libertines are also a big influences. We can think of far worse ones to have.
