Five For Free #123

Young Dreams - Fog Of War

This Norwegian band are definitely on to something. Young Dreams take inspiration as much from classical music as pop, although their own sound feels like future symphonies rather than harking back to musty old composers. They've got an album planned for next year and new single 'Fog Of War' is an awesome mix of experimental beats, orchestral strings, electronica and a massive pop tune.

The Rebel Light - Goodbye Serenade

No less impressive are Los Angeles indie band The Rebel Light who are just about to release their debut EP. 'Goodbye Serenade' is anthemic with a big chorus, it's difficult to imagine that a song this grand was self-recorded with the vocals being done in a bathroom and the drums in a wood shed, but it seems those locations are all part of the recipe for stirring, brass-laden guitar tunes.

Sun Valley Gun Club - Millions Of Bands

Elsewhere in California, Sacramento's Sun Valley Gun Club are messing around with a different kind of guitar sound, channelling grunge and 90s alt-rock. Their album 'Into The Valley Sun' is available now and because they're generous guys they're letting us have a little freebie in the shape of new single 'Millions Of Bands' which sits somewhere between Pavement and Dinosaur Jr.

From The Airport - Colors

Heading further west, so far that we end up on the other side of the Pacific in the far east, we find South Koreans From The Airport and their new single 'Colors'. A melodic electro-rock number, this track fuses a big beat with snappy production and a chorus that recalls Northern Irish band Oppenheimer in it's experimental nature and pop sensibilities.

A Thousand Fuegos - No Up No Down

Austrian band A Thousand Fuegos are heading out on a jaunt around Europe alongside countryman Mile Me Deaf in support of their current album 'The Treachery Of Things'. You can check out the chilled and atmospheric dreampop of 'No Up No Down' for free. It's a hazy and reflective track that in its own little way gently soars with rumbling drums and distant vocals.
