Tears For Annie - You and Whose Army

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

We're all for interesting concepts and Tears For Annie fits the bill. She's not just a musician, she's an entire artistic project personified. There will be an EP, 'Purple Heart', to come soon, but the track 'You and Whose Army' is the first piece of music the project has made public. We'll come to the song shortly, but first there's an introductory visual clip which comes alongside it. It's slightly NSFW and also kids, don't try this at home because a) you might get arrested for public indecency, and b) there's danger of suffocation involved. We're no art or film critics so we'll leave it up to you to examine the clip and see what you think.

To the song: 'You and Whose Army' is high quality alternative pop and the bang-on press release compares the track to Siouxsie Sioux and Kate Bush. That's a difficult pairing to argue with, vocally there's the faint echo of both in there, and musically this is like Kate Bush fronting a guitar band. 'You and Whose Army' shouldn't be considered, as is bound to be the case in some reviews, as an artist having a pop at music, this is a fully-fledged and accomplished track that's as poppy as it is arty. You don't need a degree in musicology to "get" it, it's pop and it's good. Enjoy it.
