Deleted Sin - Psychéfract!Onated

Single review by KevW

We recently introduced you to Parisian gloom merchants Deleted Sin (or at least those who didn't know them already) and continuing their run of spooked electronic sound textures is new single 'Psychéfract!Onated'. Feel free to take your own guesses at pronunciation and meaning, we're buggered if we know. The fact that it stars with "Psych" should be a pointer that this is a track that's designed to mess with your head a little and probably isn't suited to a kids' birthday party. Mind you, it would make for a hilarious spectacle getting a group of five-year-olds playing musical statues to this, and would possibly result in tears/permanent mental scarring. But as dark electronic drones go, this is a pretty fine example.

With slowly ticking and stammering retro beats, the very tempo is somewhat unsettling, when you add some of the most ominous sounding synth layers this side of Satan's lair you end up with a bewitching cocktail of noises. Call it witch-house if you like, it shares a similarly bleak outlook and all encompassing despair, especially with the staggered vocals that are short on lyrics (and what lyrics there are can barely be deciphered) but high on varying tones; from angelic sighs to what seem like cries of hopelessness and sinister chanting. 'Psychéfract!Onated' is a little bit like falling into a musical abyss. However, it turns out that a musical abyss isn't such a bad place to be after all.
