Keep Shelly In Athens - Recollection

The most startling thing about this first single from Keep Shelly In Athens' new album 'At Home' is that this will be their début album proper. We got excited about the Greek duo upon hearing the stunning 'Running Out Of You' back in 2010. That was before this site existed but the track was a big hit on our radio show. Over three years to make an album when you had material like that floating about? It seems crazy. If you factor in the numerous other songs that are dated to the same time and have subsequently been released and re-released on numerous occasions and labels then you realise that those recordings were easily enough to make up a first LP, they simply were never labelled as a proper album.

That all changes on September 17th (this will be digital, with physical copies following on the 30th) when Cascine release 'At Home', an official début album comprised of (as far as we can tell) previously unreleased material. What to expect? Well, the pair have had plenty of time to ponder how they want to sound and find the means of transforming those sounds into songs. So with 'Recollection' they've created a pristine electro-pop song; it's what happens when chillwave grows up. This is far more marketable than the superlative 'Running Out Of You' and subsequently lacks some of the magic that us alternative types go mad for, but Keep Shelly In Athens don't need to worry about that. If this track represents the style and quality of the album then they won't be quite so underground for much longer, and they'll still have their credibility intact.
