Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
Texans Air Review have been off the radar for a while after going into hibernation in a garage to work on new material. When they awoke in February they brought with them a new album in 'Low Wishes' that proved the time was well spent, and not just lying around in front of an XBox getting stoned. The album was a triumph and could feasibly see them step up a level in terms of public consciousness. Or at least that's what we were hoping. The album had the songs to make this transition possible, and now they release a new single.
The lovely, harmonious 'Animal' isn't the most upbeat song you'll hear, but with the beauty of the arrangements and that gorgeous combination of voices it doesn't need to be, it's engaging enough simply from being a great tune to need to rely on the usual tricks of the trade to draw attention its way. The mixing seems all important here, creating a misty haze that successfully acts as a soft-focus filter for the song, adding extra comfort and warmth. Before we risk making it sound more like a duvet than a song, we'll leave it there and let you listen.
