Lime Cordiale - Bullshit Aside

EP review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

If only there were enough hours in a day to go through all the great bands in all corners of the world and dig out the stuff that's passed us by in the past. It would be an almost never ending task. Sydney quintet Lime Cordiale formed back in 2009 so we can be pretty sure that new single 'Bullshit Aside' isn't their first, and we hope it won't be their last. There might be a slight guilty pleasure aspect to this song; it is commercial indie/pop and it's full of pop hooks, but it's pretty impossible not to like. The press release calls this an "undeniable radio single". I think repeated uses of the word "bullshit" may scupper their daytime playlist ambitions though.

'Bullshit Aside' sounds like it was a heck of a lot of fun to make and it's certainly a heck of a lot of fun to listen to. The band make good use of their five members and nothing apart from the vocal is really allowed to take the lead. We get drums, brass, organ, guitar and bass all given a pretty much equal billing here. It's definitely about the song and not the players (as it should be) and there's no boring soloing getting in the way of of the melodies. It's winter down under at the moment, yet this song sounds as sunny as they come and should be one of the soundtracks to our Northern Hemisphere summer.
