Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
Checking this morning's music news I spotted a picture of Debbie Harry and Clem Burke from Blondie backstage a a festival. Somewhat fittingly the next song I heard was this debut single from Emmy Wildwood. Now, it would be silly to claim that Emmy Wildwood is in any way as important or influential as those legends, this is her debut single and even four albums into her career it'll be unlikely she'll change music in the way that band did, and this is no slight on Emmy's part, the same could be said for just about anyone in the world. But the similarities don't just start and end with the fact that both are from New York.
Blondie may nave come from a punk background, but their music became a type of brand new alternative pop music, and Emmy Wildwood makes alternative pop music; comparing it to Heart Of Glass, Atomic and so on would be unfair, but you'd expect there to be an influence, and other acts that have perhaps inspired her sound are Cindy Lauper, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and possible contemporary Lissy Trullie, plus other crossover acts. It could be argued that Emmy's sound is a touch more poppy than some, but 'Chick Chick Boom (Tired Of Love)' does show that she doesn't want to be making straight ahead pop. If she can maintain a hold on the direction of her music and keep producing the goods like this, then the future could be bright.
