Cate Le Bon - What Is Worse

'Cyrk II' is the follow up to Welsh songstress Cate Le Bon's recently released 'Cyrk' album and is made up of songs recorded at the same time. These are no off-cuts though, simply songs that didn't quite fit the first volume. So another ace batch of psych-folk from the modern day, Welsh, female version of Syd Barrett. Check out free track 'What Is Worse'.

Pet Lions - Lightning Bolt

Chicago band Pet Lions aren't messing around when it comes to getting plenty of material out there either. The Chicago quartet put out their debut album 'Houses' last year and are currently putting the finishing touches to the follow-up. They're very kindly giving away their new single 'Lightning Bolt' which is delightfully pacey indie-rock furnished with plenty of melody and jangly guitars.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Only In My Dreams

Los Angeles nutjob Ariel Marcus Rosenberg rightly has a reputation for not being the most sane, sensible or serious kind of fellow, and his latest album with Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti once again shows why. His unusual takes on different genres and, um, unique way with words mark him out as a distinctive talent. On 'Only In My Dreams' he takes on 60s, jangly psychedelia. And wins.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

Highasakite - Indian Summer

You know how 'Mother Protect' is the best song on Niki & The Dove's album because it grows from a decent pop tune into a euphoric hum along beast that makes you go weak at the ears? Well, anyway, it is and it does. Norwegians Highasakite release their new EP today and 'Indian Summer' achieves the exact same feat; from beautiful beginnings this absolute delight blossoms into pure aural bliss of epic proportions. Plus it just gets better and better the more you play it. Stick this one on repeat.
