Juveniles - Fantasy

The world of electro-pop has been carefully revisiting every aspect of the first wave of bands to storm the charts making these kind of sounds back in the 1980s. Mostly this is the music, occasionally the image too, and here, the whole lot. French duo Juveniles recently released their self-titled debut album and single 'Fantasy' sees them going for the full-on new romantic experience. Musically this track is similar to much of what's been doing the rounds; plenty of synth, an insistent beat, bass playing that borders on becoming offensive (they're just a step away from Level 42 here, but that's probably part of the plan) and funky guitars.

I guess calling a song 'Fantasy' gives you the opportunity to go a bit mental with the video. So they have. It's part Human League and part Duran Duran, as the two band members find themselves in a huge country house with two women who they clearly lust over. You could call it psychedelic, but it doesn't fit the genre, although it is pure weirdness all round. Quite what the plot is we can't work out, but the two very glamorous women seem to be teasing them a considerable amount and generally being more interested in each other. There are plenty of segments that make no sense and plenty of costumes worn. The whole thing ends with our two heroes running up an incredibly long lawn wearing women's clothing and bright red lipstick while the glamorous women laugh at them. Yep, it's weird alright.
