Five For Free #271

Loop Line - Cut That Wave

Wow, the ongoing deluge of psychedelia is infiltrating that lesser revival of surf bands, and it sounds awesome! Loop Line are a duo who apparently reside on different continents, so whether this is all done by email or they meet up occasionally we don't know, but it sounds like a real band. 'Cut That Wave' is a twangy, trippy track from their debut album 'Tides'.

The Casket Girls - Same Side

You might think that US trio The Casket Girls have a spooky, possibly morbid side to them. If so then you have a mind that functions well, as this is indeed an eerie tune, but it's not all doom and gloom. They do melody and harmony and have produced a pretty easy to listen to scuzzy alt-rock track in 'Same Side'. It's from their album 'True Love Kills The Fairy Tale'.

Dreamend - Magnesium Light

Fellow Georgians (the US state, not the country) Dreamend are no strangers to music that takes are liking for the darker side of life, and the cover and title of album 'So I Ate Myself Bit By Bite' give that away. 'Magnesium Light' however, isn't as creepy as you might think, instead being a slightly dreamy, plucked experimental indie-rock number.

The Open Feel - Sidewalk Zombies

OK, so you could be forgiven for thinking this was some kind of Halloween special, but it's not, it's totally by chance (well, that and the fact that we like the tunes), but despite its title, 'Sidewalk Zombies' is perhaps less creepy than other tracks featured, although it's unquestionably a haunting alt-rock number with spooky lyrics. It comes to us from LA duo The Open Feel.

The Library Is On Fire - Red Flags

Alright, so now we've got buildings burning down. This wasn't supposed to be quite as sinister as it's turned out, but at least the songs are good! 'Red Flags' is from Brooklyn trio The Library is On Fire and is from their forthcoming album 'Halcyon & Surrounding Areas'. Making use of loud/quiet dynamics and some neat songwriting, this is a fine way to finish off a guitar-heavy set of quality music.
