Noisy alt-rock experimenters Japanther are back with a new album, 'Instant Money Magic', on April 15th, just after their appearances as SXSW. Sally Seltmann - Needle In The Hay
Given the sheer volume of music that's out there (a modest site like us gets over 200 submissions a day), finding something good amongst the tosh is a bit like finding a 'Needle In The Hay', so we can relate to Australian Sally Setmann's sentiments here, even though she's talking about love and not records. The colourful cover might give the game away: this is a sweet psych-folk gem that's a little dreamy.

Bent Denim - Fuel
Duos are all the rage nowadays, aren't they? US pair Bent Denim formed last year and have already pulled in some favourable comments thanks to their experimental approach to indie-rock which incorporates electronic aspects. Freebie 'Fuel' sounds not unlike something from Grandaddy at their peak, and as compliments go, that's a pretty high one. Their debut album 'Epistolary' is out March 25th.

Shivery Shakes - So Long
Shivery Shakes have the fortune to live in Austin, so no travelling for their SXSW gigs is needed, although they might get a bit annoyed about their town becoming the busiest place on Earth for a week. They make alt-rock that comprises of many different influences and dodges formula wherever possible. New single 'Sidewalk Talk'/'So Long' is out now, and if we had to choose then 'So Long' wins by a nose.
