Band To Check Out: Rubber Tones

Article by KevW

When Aylesbury garage rock 'n' roll heroes Bootstrap called it a day a couple of years ago it was a big shame, as while they weren't exactly a household name, they were a mighty live experience and were equipped with some killer tunes. Still, every cloud has a silver lining as they say, and rising like a phoenix from the ashes of that band are the highly promising Rubber Tones who've steadily been making themselves known to the world by way of a handful of gigs and a few early recordings uploaded to the internet for our listening pleasure.

The quartet still favour dirty guitars and alternative scuzzy rock, but where there was a bluesy element to Bootstrap's sound, Rubber Tones have the feel of US college rock bands the early 90's such as Pavement, especially with the slacker vibes of 'Clandestino', and on 'Signal To Noise' they embrace the more casual side of the grunge scene. If you've ever obsessed over Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, The Lemonheads and bands of a similar ilk, then you'll find a lot to love in Rubber Tones' sound. It'll be exciting to see how they progress as more tracks appear online, and it's gonna be a pretty safe bet that if you catch these guys live a great night will be had by all.
