There are a million music sites of various shapes and sizes out there, and you can go to just about any one and find somebody excitedly raving about some new band who you'll never hear of again. We should know, we're one of them. But of all the new bands we've got over enthusiastic about recently, Lusts have to be one of the best - and the difference here is that we're far from the only ones getting giddy about their music. Mainstream publications such as NME and The Guardian have already featured them as new band of the week, and blogland is equally as enthusiastic. With the Midlands pair announcing that their debut album 'Illuminations' is due in October and will be followed by a European tour, the hype is only growing.
You get the impression that Lusts will live up to it though, and their latest single bolsters that view. Aside from personal preferences (it's a neat blend of psych, shoegaze and indiepop... enough said), 'Waves' is the kind of driving alternative anthem that doesn't need fanfare or stadium production, in fact, that would ruin what they have. The trippy video fits the music like a glove; colourful, vibrant eye candy to match the colourful, vibrant ear candy. Maybe the days when a band like this could challenge the upper echelons of the singles chart are gone, but with bands like The Horrors, Toy and Temples (and Lusts are probably better than at least two of those) shifting albums and getting coverage, there's a distinct possibility that these guys will do the same. Much will hinge on the album, but this is starting to sound like more than just a few scribes getting carried away.
