Five For Free #29

Hatcham Social - Shut Your Mouth

The first track taken from Hatcham Social's forthcoming second album 'About Girls' was fairly nondescript. Decent enough but lacking any distinguishing features, any of the quirks that made the debut enjoyable. Well, second track 'Shut Your Mouth' is better, upbeat and energetic with a funky drum beat. It gives us renewed hope that they haven't lost it just yet.

Loney, Dear - Slow Down

An apology first of all to Emil Svanangen for referring to him as "Lonely, Dear" rather than Loney, Dear in a previous post. It's an easy mistake to make! The Swede is offering another track from his sixth album 'Hall Music' as a free download. 'Slow Down' is more of his trademark intricate writing and arranging, sounding quietly dramatic thanks to the subtle orchestration.

Pretty Good Dance Moves - I Wonder Why

Pretty Good Dance Moves are a duo from Chicago who formed in 2007 and have recently signed to Mad Dragon Records who will be releasing their debut album in February. 'I Wonder Why' is a wonderful piece of simple indietronica featuring slightly hypnotic repetition and the vocals of Sabina Sciubba from Brazilian Girls who appears on several album tracks.

A Place To Bury Strangers - So Far Away

We've had a bit of a wait for new material from A Place To Bury Strangers. Their last album 'Exploding Head' was back in 2009, but this year, following a line up change, they began work on their third album. They've recently announced that they will be releasing a new EP in February and the first track taken from it is the typically scuzzy and distorted 'So Far Away'.

Weird Dreams - Joan

London guitar-pop band Weird Dreams are currently putting the finishing touches to their debut album which is due out next year. Until then they're offering up a free track, 'Joan' to tide us over. 'Joan' won't appear on the album which hopefully indicates that what they have in store is even better than this gentle, mid-paced psych-pop gem. Definitely a band to watch.
