Five For Free #25

MJ Hibbett & The Validators - Theme From Dinosaur Planet

Cult heroes MJ Hibbett & The Validators are known for being unconventional and also just plain old barking mad, but their latest project takes the biscuit. 'Theme From Dinosaur Planet' is the title track of their forthcoming science fiction, rock-opera concept album and tells the story of the dinosaurs returning to earth from space. I'll have a pint of whatever they're on, please.

A Lull - Weapons For War

Chicago six-piece A Lull released new album 'Confetti' earlier this year and you can pick up single 'Weapons For War' below. It's a prime example of the avant-garde alternative pop that they do so well. Experimental, layered and a mish-mash of styles and influences, it's the kind of boundary pushing approach that's both commendable and a treat for the ears at the same time.

Dead Gaze - Fishing With Robert

Dead Gaze is the project of Mississippi resident R. Cole Furlow but new track 'Fishing With Robert' sounds nothing like any delta-blues stereotypes, instead adding a healthy coating of fuzz to an otherwise melodic indie-pop song. You could describe it many ways; psychedelia, shoegaze, garage, fuzzpop, chillwave... whatever label you decide to throw at it, it's a great track.

Field Music - (I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing

Wearside brothers David and Peter Brewis have a new album lined up as Field Music which will be released in February on the brilliant Memphis Industries label. The album will be their fourth and will apparently see a return to the style of their earlier recordings. The first taster from 'Plumb' is the choppy, chiming '(I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing' which you can download below.
