Single review by KevW
London four-piece Being There deal in streamlined indiepop that will more than meet the needs of those looking for a band to plug the gap left when The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart moved on to slicker pastures new. This debut single is nothing short of breathtaking. Anchored by a driving, bouncing rhythm section, 'The Radio' is pure sugar-coated perfection, both lo-fi and graceful. It's a track that carries itself with a wilful exuberance, built from jangly guitars, understated, melancholy keyboard, soft, sweet vocals, and precision-engineered melody.
It's near impossible to follow something so flawless but they give it a bloody good go with 'Back To The Future'. Slightly less sprightly and aerodynamic than 'The Radio', it uses a stuttering beat and weightier guitars as the foundations on which to place another healthy dose of gleaming melody. I may be waxing lyrical, but it would be easy to throw numerous other superlatives in the direction of these two songs and Being There could well become your new favourite band. A late contender for single of the year.
