Out This Week - 4th June 2012

The Walkmen - Heartbreaker

These US alt-rock giants are sounding better now than ever before. If you missed our post on recent single 'Heaven' then you need to get on the case pronto. You should also investigate their new album of the same name which is out in the UK this week. It's sounding properly top drawer. To temp you further, have a listen to the album's second single, the awesome 'Heartbreaker'.

River City Extension - If You Need Me Back In Brooklyn

New Jersey collective River City Extension release their second full-length 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger' this week and the album's lead single is yours for nothing but a mouse click. 'If You Need Me Back In Brooklyn' is melodic, hand-clappy indie-rock with horns and a chorus of voices that adds layers building up to a superbly uplifting finale.

Doldrums - Jump Up

Montreal electro-rock artist Airick Woodhead has a new album as Doldrums out this week and single 'Jump Up' (we're assuming that's not him on vocals) is something of an electroclash monster, being robust, bouncy, euphoric, catchy and lots of other good things besides. Feeling down in the dumps? This should sort you out, and it quite rightly ends in a round of applause.

The Duke Spirit - Glorious

Our favourite blues/rock/soul group The Duke Spirit have taken everyone by surprise by releasing this previously unannounced new single and video. 'Glorious' is a brand new track not featured on the recent 'Bruiser' album and takes in everything we love about them. Those rich, smoky tones and tighter than a duck's arse musicianship. Hopefully this means they're not short of more new material.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

The See See - Sweet Hands

For a few years now, The See See have been one of the UK's finest purveyors of sunkissed psych-pop and their lack of commercial success is nothing short of criminal. New album 'Fountayne Mountain' was released last week and its second single, the exceptional 'Sweet Hands' is out on 7" today. It follows in their grand tradition of faultless singles that includes 'Keep Your Head', 'Mary Soul' and 'Gold And Honey'.
