Five For Free #70

The Secret History - Sergio

The Secret History were formed in New York by songwriter Michael Grace Jr., a former member of The Favorite, back in 2007 and released a debut album in 2010. They're soon to release follow up 'Americans Singing In The Dark' and the first taster from the album comes in the shape of emotive indiepop ballad 'Sergio' which you can grab below.

A Place To Bury Strangers - Burning Plastic

Now on to their third album are fellow New York residents A Place To Bury Strangers. 'Worship' is due for release sometime later this year and they currently have a split 7" single available to commemorate their late friend Ariel Panero. No word as to whether 'Burning Plastic' will be on the album yet, but it's free/name your price to download and is a hectic jumble of shuffling drums, chugging guitars and distant vocals.

Sea Of Bees - Take

Over on the other side of the US, Sea Of Bees has released her new album 'Orangefarben' this week on Heavenly Recordings. Julie Ann Baenziger recorded virtualy all the instrumentation for the album herself and if you haven't heard any of the finished article yet then tuck in to the lovely, wistful 'Take', a light and thoughtful track that's more intricate than some of her work.

Sister Crayon - Arcane

Also enjoying the California sun are indiepop band Sister Crayon who will be following up last year's 'Below Me' album with a new record later this year. No confirmed date for it yet but they've released the first fruits from the recording sessions in the form of free track 'Arcane' which is an upbeat and ethereal piece of dreampop and generally rather good.

Fletcher C. Johnson - Messin' Up My Mind

In what's unwittingly turned out to be a Sacramento/Brooklyn double bill, we'll finish with a track from Brooklynite Fletcher C. Johnson who has a new single 'Messin' Up My Mind' out this week. It's superbly jangly garage-pop with a singalong chorus. A tried and tested format, but one that will rarely fail when you can come up with tunes as good as this ramshackle nugget.
