Five For Free #19

Duchess Says - Time To Reiterate

The second album from Canadian quartet Duchess Says is out this week. 'Time To Reiterate' is a pulsating slab of meaty post-punk, although they prefer to describe their sound as “moog rock”, it's a description that fits but whatever you choose to to call it - it's a very good tune and really that's all that counts.

Casiokids - Det Haster!

'Aabenbaringen over Aaskammen' is probably unpronounceable to those who don't speak Norwegian, but that's the name of the new album from Casiokids which is out this week in Norway, North America and Japan with a worldwide release to follow. 'Det Haster!' is more of their trademark low budget synth-pop and that's no bad thing at all.

Future Islands - Before The Bridge

Baltimore trio Future Islands have just put out their third album 'On The Water' which features the excellent 'Before The Bridge', a bass heavy, synth driven, new wave track which sounds slightly spooky thanks to the unusual vocal intonation, a little bit like Fryars fronting a long lost experimental group from 1981.

Chairlift - Peculiar Paradise

It's taken three years for Chairlift to follow up their breakthrough second album 'Does You Inspire You' and they've lost a member along the way, but it's finished and due out early next year. The first single taken from it is 'Amanaemonesia'. The b-side 'Peculiar Paradise' is even better and finds them more upbeat than usual. Grab it below.
