Get Me Free #153: Little Cub - Intent

Article by KevW

Besides their names and the fact that they're from south London, we don't have a great deal of information about Little Cub, but they state that more will be given (including about future release dates and live gigs) through their mailing list. So it's a nice change from bands who Instagram every waking second of their lives. The band have released two songs so far, debut single 'Breathing Space' and current track 'Intent', both of which were made available as free downloads from their website.

To the music it is then, and 'Intent' is an innovative mixture of electronic alt-pop and indiepop sounds, comprising of a jittery beat that would sound like the Casio style that is sporadically popular were it not for the bass. Soft waves of synth and occasional glitches join in, but the focus is on a vocal that would sound quite melancholy with a different backing, and when they do break that's exactly what happens. 'Intent' builds into something much more lush as it begins to reach the end though, before suddenly fizzling out. There's emotion and invention to be found here, and those are two qualities that will do no new band any harm.
