Get Me Free #142: Safe Places - Wild Ride

Article by KevW

What a way to introduce yourself. If you go to Safe Places' Twitter page there lies just one tweet so far, dated November 29th, and simply stating "Hello, world." with a SoundCloud link to 'Wild Ride', a song that's currently free to download from Bandcamp, with a release date of January 15th. There's not much more we can tell you, apart from that the band/solo artist is based in Austin, Texas, and may well be already known to the shoegaze community (apart from us it seems), as comments on the song and Twitter followers include prominent members and supporters of the scene.

Any fuss is instantly justified with a quick spin of Safe Places' solitary upload, 'Wild Ride' (which we're assured was "written and produced by Safe Places in a safe place", so that's good to know). Kicking straight into a thumping, driving beat and scorching guitars, this track sounds hungry and enthusiastic, possessing an almost four-to-the-floor stomp and a non-stop wall of noise that seems totally insatiable. It doesn't let up, pushing on and on with melodic fervour until finally ending abruptly. Is it too early to start talking about potential shoegaze tracks of the year?
