The Sinclair Sinclair - Feel

Single review by KevW

Formed in the Estonian capital Tallinn just over a year ago, The Sinclair Sinclair are an electronic duo who use computers to generate shoegazey dreampop that sounds remarkably organic given the nature of it's production. Taking inspiration from late 80s and early 90s sonic adventurers such as Slowdive and the 4AD label's canon as well as Estonian synth music of that era, the handful of tracks they've released so far have drawn comparison to contemporaries such as Beach House, although new single 'Feel' has a more hostile aura.

Their aim is to bring dreams to life and explore these fantasy realms through sound. Judging by 'Feel' their nights must be somewhat troubled, as the dark atmosphere they've created feels like storm clouds closing in, the pulsating bass seeming to warn of an approaching menace. Vocals drift through the track like haunting spirits; it's quite an effect. There are heaps of layered synthscapes floating around at the moment, but where The Sinclair Sinclair come in to their own is by giving it some balls instead of just piling some washes of sound together and hoping for the best. It's a nightmare that's thoroughly enjoyable.
